Britain's Toughest Test

Ultimate Outdoors brands have again done well in Trail Magazine “Britain’s Toughest Test” of waterproof jackets. Mountain Equipment is again setting an example with two of their jackets winning awards. In the Winter Jackets category, the ME Kongur scooped the Best in Test award with a magnificent five stars score. The Kongur was originally developed with Ultimate Outdoors and has become a firm favourite for several years now, due to it’s year round performance required by the instructors at Plas y Brenin. For 2007 the Kongur is now made from Gore-tex Pro Shell fabric (see the Pro Shell article for details) giving greater breathability and durability at a lower weight. Trail says, “a superb jacket for winter action”. Mountain Equipment wasn’t the only brand to come away with some prizes however. Montane got the Best Value award in the General Purpose category for it’s Venture Jacket. This is the second year that Ultimate Outdoors has stocked this jacket and we think you’ll agree with us that a durable eVent jacket with proper map sized pockets is a bargain at £150. Other jackets that scored well were the Berghaus Cornice and Glissade jackets, the classic Paramo Alta II jacket and Velez Smock, as well as the Montane Superfly XT jacket.
